Wanted: Sleep!

Anyone willing to take David in for a few days? I desperately need sleep. For the past 3 or 4 days he's been sleepwalking 4 or 5 times a night. And every time he does this I wake up and get him back to bed. He has zero recollection of this but I'm left so tired during the day. It happened 4 times again last night and today I feel like a zombie. It's all catching up to me and I'm here by myself at work today. We are normally a 4 person team and we are down to one today, me. Great. Tons of work and dead tired on top of it. And it's so hard to get angry because he doesn't know what he's doing so it's not like he's doing it on purpose but my god, 4 times a night?

If this becomes a regular thing I may have to invest in some chains to keep him locked to the bed, and not in the fun way! :)

Where I came from...

Since doing this get to know you stuff at work, it's actually made me think more about where I came from. My grandmother left her native country to flee communism and to make a better life for her children. I gathered a few old photos to be included in the presentation because I would not be me without the incredibly strong women in my life. My grandmother is the toughest, most hardworking person I know. To think of all she went through in her life exhausts me. This is exactly why I try not to take anything for granted in life. Some days when I'm driving home from work and I pull up to the house I want to cry. I am so very thankful to be able to live like this. And none of it would be possible if my grandmother hadn't packed up and left her whole family behind so that she could start fresh in a free country.

I spoke with my mother the other day about the pictures above and she shared some things with me that I didn't know about when they came over through Ellis Island in 1951. My mother was 3 years old. They were in a camp in Germany for 3 years, waiting for a ship to take them to NY. They were on a boat, men separated from women and children, for over a week. They spent a week at Ellis Island because they didn't understand the Americanized version of their last name when it was called to go through the processing part. In the meantime, while they were there my mom and uncle would attend classes at Ellis Island to start to learn English.

I find out more and more in tiny bits as the years go by. My grandmother never talks about it. It's too painful for her. But my mom offers up information occasionally. Honestly, I wouldn't want to talk about it either. I can't imagine the strength it must take to leave your home (and family) behind and head to a country where you don't speak the language and know no one.

So, this post is dedicated to one of the most wonderful woman I know, she means the world to me and it's such a great feeling to hear that she considers me her best friend.

Don't worry, be happy Vecmom.

wait for it ...

Since it was requested...

Yes, this was my room at one point in my life...let the jokes begin!

what did I just do??

I'm about to be publicly humiliated in front of the whole staff tomorrow. Yep, can't wait. Every week certain members of our staff present about another staff member so we can get to know them. That lucky person this week is me. I've been asked all sorts of questions this week and people are now scanning in photos of me when I was a kid dressed up in my grandmothers clothes, my great-grandparents in 1934, photography I have done in the past and even a photo of my walls in my room when I was a teenager obsessed with Nelson (you couldn't see any paint, my walls were covered in magazine clippings of the twins).

Yep, now this will all be public knowledge. Why oh why did I share those things?! At least the presentation will make people laugh...I hope! But this presentation is freaking me out. And I don't have to do anything, just sit back while 50 people get to know me more than they ever thought they would. However, with a person who has social anxiety issues, tomorrow is going to be hell!

Can't wait!
