Um...our seats are where?

Ok, don't get me wrong, Yankees games are fun but when it takes 6 hours of driving to get there and you basically have the worst seats on the lower level and it's about 95 degrees out and they wind up losing 19-6 it's hard to say it was worth it! Especially when we were told we'd be sitting behind home plate, since we were getting seats from the umpire.

Anyway...there was a glimmer of fun on Saturday. David's uncle (who was also at the game with us) flashed his badge and we wound up being able to stand in the press area as the players left the stadium after the game. We were about 30 feet away from people like Alex Rodriguez, Randy Johnson, Johnny Damon, Mike Mussina, Don Mattingly and Joe Torre, just to name a few :) So, it wasn't all bad!

Oh, and Sunday morning before we left, we tortured Yoda in the pool...hehe!

on the road again...

So, I've been MIA for a while. This week has been crazy at work. I was in training for 2 whole days and then had to come back to a million requests yesterday. I still have a ton to do today, which means I won't be able to take advantage of the "leave at noon if you get all of your work done" Friday. Boo!

Wednesday was nice though, got to play some more tennis, looks like Wednesday will be our ritual. We were pissed though because we had to be polite and only play an hour because there were people waiting for the court. We were good though, and abided by the community rules. We both definitely wanted to play longer though. We are starting to see some of our old skills come out of hiding. We aren't totally there yet (I managed to hit a ball over the fence, again). But you can really see that in the prime of our tennis careers we were pretty good.

This weekend should be a fun one. David and I are headed up north to go catch a game at Yankee Stadium. He has made it a requirement that he sees at least one game a year up there. And this is it. We were able to get really good seats because David's mom's cousin is an umpire. And the best part, they were free :) I originally was super excited to go but it would really be nice to just stay home and get some things done around the house. But I'm sure, once I'm up there I will be thrilled. I'm just so sick of traveling so much.

Aside from that, things are pretty much same old same old. We are working with a new DJ now that has gotten really good reviews and are in the process of tweaking the contract. Hopefully by next week I can officially cross that item off the wedding checklist. Also in the works are hair and makeup. Once I get those three things out of the way then I will be able to breath a tiny sigh of relief.

One last thing...has anyone heard that ridiculously annoying 7-11 song? It's in my head now and won't go away!! "7-11 is having a two-for two-for..." Grr!

My weekend in Indy...

I wasn't looking forward to this past weekend that much considering we were going to David's fraternity convention in Indianapolis and none of our close friends were going. Which meant, I had no one to hang out with while the boys were in meetings all day. And I was right, it wasn't that much fun to sit around in the hotel room or roam around downtown Indianapolis by myself.

Although, I do have to say, it was nice to get away from everyday life and let my brain shut down for a few days. And it wasn't all bad while I was there.

We had dinner with one of David's older fraternity brothers on Friday night. Saturday, during the day I roamed around the city by myself, got some lunch, watched dog agility and frisbee throwing contests in front of one of the museums, and then read a book down by the canal. Saturday night there was the formal banquet and afterwards a bunch of us went to check out the Indy nightlife. And I must say, that town was pretty busy that night! Lots of drunk bride to be's, one of which came up to our group and the lone single guy was forced to suck a lifesaver off of her shirt which read "suck for a buck". Nice. (Oh, and my close friends that are reading this, if you do ANYTHING like this to me before I get married I will never speak to you again!)

So, I guess the weekend wasn't too bad, that was, until we got to the airport on Sunday...

Yesterday we got to the airport at 12:30pm and our flight was supposed to leave at 2:30pm. Long story short, the plane broke before it took off to get to us in Indianapolis. So, we didn't end up taking off until almost 6pm. We could have driven more than half way home by the time we ended up in Dulles. Oh, and we missed the pickup time where Yoda was being boarded so that cost us another night. Had to pick the poor little guy up at 7am today.

Anyway, it was a decent weekend but I'm definitely glad to be back home!

officially pissed!

The DJ that we wanted to use for the weddnig (because he's gotten rave reviews) seems like he has been avoiding us fo about 3 months. All we wanted to know is if he had the date free. Simple right? Nope, everytime we called there seemed to be an excuse. The latest one was family problems. Ok, could be true but then again it's also an easy out because we can't yell at him or get mad. Whatever, so he was supposed to call back on the 12th letting us know if he had the date free or not. Didn't call back. David called him again days later and he said he would get back to him in 3 hours but that he was 95% certain the date was free. Yep, he didn't call back in 3 hours.

David called him today and guess what? He doesn't have the date free and the dipsh*t just wasted 3 months of our time. If this guy didn't come highly recommended we would have given up a long time ago. I'm just so incredibly pissed off right now I needed to vent somewhere. I can't believe that he would do business this way.

I need a drink. A very strong one.

tennis anyone?

Last night was wonderful! I had a friend come over so that we could finally start our weekly sessions of tennis. It felt so great to get out there again. I could kick myself for not making this happen sooner. This is the one sport that I wholeheartedly love to play and I could spend hours out there and not want to go home. We played for about an hour and a half (trust me, it would have been longer if we didn't have to go to work the next day!). Grant it, it wasn't like we were playing games or anything. We are both a little rusty considering that we haven't played in years. But we were both once really good. Both co-captains of our respective high school teams. So, the consistency will come back eventually. Right now, we just need to find our ground strokes. My backhand has literally disappeared. So sad.

Another quite depressing thing is that I finally realized how out of shape I am. I mean, it's obvious that I'm not in shape or even close to it anymore, and I'm trying to change that. But the really devastating aspect of all of this is that my brain still thinks I can make those tough shots, the ones that barely go over the net, or the swift cross court shots. However, my body doesn't move the way it used to and it was a real eye opener to see how little I could move around the court. (oh, and the fact that I can barely walk down the stairs today because my knees hurt so bad!) Gotta do something about that! I love this sport too much to do it half assed because I'm out of shape. So, hopefully last night was the kick I needed to finally get some more of this weight off.

Anyway, it was still a great time and I know it will get better each and every week we are out there. I really can't even describe how happy I am when I'm on that court. And it's awesome that I finally found someone else who feels the same! (Supermom, we need to get out and play sometime too!)

full speed ahead!

So it looks like I'm finally getting into the swing of things for the wedding...this is what I completed yesterday.

Buy flower girl basket -- check!

Buy ring bearer pillow -- check!

Schedule dress fitting -- check!

Whoo hoo! Three more things to cross off the list. Feels great!

WARNING: The next 4 and a half months may be filled with wedding related posts. I apologize in advance if it becomes overwhelming. I completely understand if you don't visit my blog again until the middle of December :)

here comes the bride...

Wow, I seem to be in full wedding mode lately. And this weekend is real proof. Ever since I made that checklist I seem to have all the motivation in the world to get all the small details finished.

Since I was able to leave work early on Friday, I went out to Ikea on a scouting mission for pillar candles. Exciting, yes I know! And on a side note, on the way home I almost got into a serious accident during a random rain storm that had me hydroplaning on a curve towards a Ford Explorer. Luckily, about 5 inches before I crashed into him, the road came back up to meet my tires and I was able to swerve back into my lane. However, I was shaking for about 10 minutes after that. All in the name of candles. I did find the ones I want though and I am thrilled that one more thing is almost ready to be crossed off the list.

On Saturday, David and I made our way to the jewelry store to browse the wedding bands. I was able to find what I want almost instantly, literally the first ring I put on. David however, didn't find something that he really liked so we will have to go back some other time. No worries, we have plenty of time. I did buy mine though, they just had to resize it and I picked it up on Sunday. I swear I've tried it on about 20 times since I picked it up :)

Sunday was dedicated to ornament making. I really needed to get some more done because 5 months sounds like a lot of time but if I don't really start moving my ass, half of our guests won't get a favor. But I was able to start 24 more ornaments which has gotten me over the halfway point. Only about 50 more to do and then I start calling the girls to come over for a ribbon tying party. You guys asked for it, and it's coming!

Oh, and I was also able to finish reading 'Diary of a Mad Bride' that a friend let me borrow. My god, so hysterical and a must read for any bride to be.

And late last night, I realized that I really am addicted to the knot because I am now having a bride (who oddly enough is getting married on the same day as me) from the NJ board make my table number cards. Yeah, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but she is helping out a lot of brides by doing this and she really does a great job and does it for cheap. One less thing for me to do!

So, overall it was a crazy wedding related weekend and I couldn't be happier about it. It really is starting to sink in that I'm getting married in less than 5 months. And the motivation is finally back. If only we could book a DJ :)

So, I don't care who you are, if you can see this post, leave a comment :)

This site apparently isn't working for some people and I want to see if it's all of you out there.

Thanks!

a little update on the post below...

So, I was talking to David last night and he couldn't believe that I didn't include 2 of the funniest sleepwalking moments he's had...or should I say sleeptalking moments...

1) He woke up and he was mumbling, I asked him to repeat what he said and he replied with "I bought 4 buttons."

2) By far the funniest thing that has happened in the middle of the night. He woke up, sat straight up in bed and shouted "BITCHES AND HO'S!!" and laid back down and started to snore.

What a bizzare character he is, and I wouldn't have it any other way :)

my life with a sleepwalker...

So, it happened again last night. Most of you may not know this but David is a sleepwalker. It doesn't happen as often as it used to (or that I am aware of), but when it does, it is scary but quite humorous at the same time.

I was awakened by David coming back into bed at 1:30am. He informed me that he had just taken a shower. Turns out that he was sleepwalking and woke up halfway through. And this wasn't the first time he had done this.

Over the years, David has had some memorable sleepwalking stories. Or I guess I should say, I have them since he doesn't remember the completely obscure ones. The first one happened when we were still in Rochester. Probably only weeks into our relationship I woke up to see David basically tiptoeing around the room. I asked him what he was doing and received no answer. He then walked over to the halogen lamp and turned it on and looked at me and said "you can only see them with the lights on." Umm, excuse me? Totally freaked me out and I really thought he was joking. But nope, I asked him about it the next day and he had zero recollection of it.

A couple of years ago I tried to keep a pad of paper next to the bed so that I could write down the crazy things he did at night. But that rarely worked because when I would get woken up I'd be so pissed I just tried to get David back to bed as quickly as possible and stop searching for spiders under the bed or looking in the closet for who knows what. Actually, those kinds of things are fine if you compare it to the night I was awakened to David on top of me shaking me asking if I was ok. Yeah, that was a great start to the morning!

But it seems that I am getting used to him getting up in the middle of the night because I hardly wake up until after it's over. I am an extremely light sleeper so it doesn't take much to wake me. Until now...seems I have trained myself to not wake up if David gets up in the middle of the night. So, now I get blamed for not stopping lets say, late night showers before they start.

short but great weekend

Even though I had a photo shoot to work on all day Saturday, this weekend turned out to be a great one! We had a couple of friends over on Friday night for dinner and had a really nice time. I even got a weekly tennis partner out of it! Can't wait until Wednesday! When I got back from my shoot on Saturday we went out to Glory Days with friends. And as if a huge dinner wasn't enough, we got DQ afterwards. I can't remember the last time I had a Blizzard and it was so worth it!

Sunday was spent doing things around the house, and I couldn't have been happier. David finally mowed the lawn...or I should say patches of crab grass (hey, it's green at least!) and I finally made my way out to my garden that I've been neglecting lately and weeded and pruned and even tackled other overgrown foliage around the backyard. We did a lot of work outside yesterday and it looks great! I'm not going to dread opening the side gate anymore for fear that neighbors will see how horrible it is back there. Well, at least for a few weeks :)

David and I even managed to have a tasty meal and great conversation on our deck last night as well. It was nice to get away from that dreaded TV for a while and just enjoy each others company.

All in all it was a great summer weekend and thank god, because it was desperately needed!

And so it begins.

I've been freaking out lately that there are a million things I haven't done yet for the wedding. There's only one big thing left to do (I wish a DJ would just call us back damnit!) and the rest is all little details or things I just have to wait to do. But I know that if I don't have a list, I'm going to forget things and be running around like a chicken without a head a month before the wedding. I see myself doing that regardless! So, yesterday and today I've been trying to wrap my head around all of this and I've compiled my first serious checklist for the wedding. I even color coded it and everything.

Now, I just have to complete the things on the list! I've already assigned David to a few items today which I hope he's doing as I write this. So, maybe by the end of today I can cross a few things off.

It is starting to make me crazy though. And I don't really have a desire to work on anything right now. At this point I just want to get on with the marriage already. Having gone to those weddings this weekend though has helped my mood a little and I'm slowly getting the urge to work on things. Hell, last week I would have never sat down to put together a checklist. So, at least I can slowly see the motivation returning. I don't really have a choice! It's less than 5 months away.

Eeek!

What a long, crazy extended weekend it’s been!

I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation. The weddings were fun but two in two days is a little too much! Here are pics of the happy couples:

After the weddings we headed to Coach and Karen’s but I think this is the first time we came away with zero pictures. I blame the exhaustion on that. But it was a lot of fun while we were there. Lots of barbequing, catching up with friends and babies everywhere :)

When we finally made it back to Virginia we headed off to the Barnhart’s for the annual 4th of July bash, which had been going on since Friday. It was so nice to be able to relax for a while in the pool. That was until the thunderstorm from hell hit. It only lasted about 10 minutes but it managed to destroy almost everything in its path. A tree next to the house was struck by lightening and the power went out. But that wasn’t the worst of it. After it settled down a few of us took a little stroll around the neighborhood to assess the damage. There were so many trees knocked over, and I mean literally ripped out of the ground. One unfortunately managed to fall right on top of someone’s house. Luckily everyone was ok but I have never seen so much damage from one storm.

I realized a little later before I went home to feed the pup that I had left the umbrella open on our deck at home. So, I drove home very anxious that I was going to come back to a broken umbrella and table. Well, when I got home, this is what I saw:

Yep, the damn thing flew off the deck and managed to land on the other side of our fence. What I didn’t realize until this morning was that our neighbor had actually put it there because it had flown even further away. Crazy! But all is well because there doesn’t seem to be any damage to the umbrella.

I made my way back to the party right as it was about to get dark. It didn’t take long before the fireworks displays started and just when the boys were about to light the finale the cops showed up. Seriously, we were the tamest yard on the block and we still got hassled by the cops. Oh well, he was cool about it and actually made all of us laugh out loud by calling Bill old. Hehe!
